Happy 2012!

Happy New Year to Everyone!  On to 2012.

Let's hope 2012 does not have as many weather problems that we were faced with in 2010 and 2011.  I guess with all the complaining we did in 2010 of the dry, hot weather, the good Lord decided to give us the opposite for 2011.   I think it started raining in June and did not stop....ok, maybe a couple of days.  It rained so much that in September Highway 37 and 37a were closed for quite awhile.

We are open from May through September, depending on the weather.  May is really pretty slow, June is a little busier, July and August are the busiest and September starts to slow down again.  So basically we have maybe 8weeks of steady, good business.  When the lovely weather forces the highway closures it REALLY impacts all of our businesses along the highway.  Since we have had 2 years now of severe highway closures, we are hoping and praying for a nice calm summer!!!!

Open for 2011

We have been open now for a couple of weeks.  Traffic is pretty slow.

We have had a week of wildlife viewing.  A few days ago we had 4 Grizzly Bears down on the trail to the lake.

It was quite the site to see that many bears at once.  Of course I was the only one who got to see them.

Yesterday we watched a Moose with new twins across the lake...she was there for hours.

We still have the little Fox around that is busy catching lots of mice for it's family.

I am hoping and praying that there will be no forest fires, floods or any other tragedy this summer!

Although it is hard to ask for anything when the poor people in Missouri and Oklahoma have lost so much.  My heart aches for them.

I am going to try and be grateful for everything I have and not complain about the small things that don't matter anyway!!

Hope you all have safe travels... God Bless!

Living In the North

I love living in the wilderness.  I love;  the scenery, having a moose walk through my front yard, a fox on the front porch, eagles soaring, bears, picking berries, the smell of the air, the northern lights, catching fish, driving on a highway for hours and only seeing a couple of cars, no traffic, no traffic lights, seeing all the Lord's creations, the pace of life and all the wonderful people!

What will 2011 bring?

The biggest question we have, as we look to what the 2011 summer will bring is,  what will business be like?

With the gas prices climbing, as they are, I'm sure that will impact the amount of tourism.

Last summer, 2010, was so hot and dry.  We had the fire north, which had the highway travel turned off and on for the whole month of August.  There were days that I was ready to fight with every diplomate that would listen to me.  Confusion caused all of our businesses along the Cassiar to lose the largest part of our income.  August is our busiest month, that August was our worst!!!

As we look forward,  we are hoping and praying that this "2011 Summer" will be, ............?
